Coordinated Community Mentoring Program

Launching at six high schools in Spokane County this fall.

Coordinated Community Mentoring Program

Research shows that mentors have a powerful impact in a young person’s life as they shape their future.

In partnership with over 15 local organizations, the Coordinated Community Mentoring Program (CCMP) will launch in the fall of 2023, focused on expanding access to mentors offering support along the journey to post-high school education.

With the help of a regional challenge grant from the Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC), this program will be piloted at six high schools in Spokane County.

OUR MISSION

We will coordinate resources and collaborate to provide peer-to-peer, near-peer, adult and family mentors for interested junior and senior students and families at our six pilot locations. We will ensure participants are connected to the wraparound supports they need and are thoughtfully partnered with a mentor to help all throughout the college-going and career exploration process.

HOW IT WORKS

The CCMP will focus on connecting with students and families who are low-income, BIPOC, English language learning or experiencing homelessness at the following high schools:

  • Medical Lake High School
  • East Valley High School
  • Riverside High School
  • North Central High School
  • Shadle Park High School
  • University High School

OUR SHARED APPROACH

Multigenerational Mentorship

We believe that a variety of different mentoring relationships offer unique benefits. Both students and their parents will have access to trusted guidance from their peers, near-peers (local college students), adults and mentors focused on supporting the entire family.

Coordination of Wraparound Supports

We will coordinate with community resources to remove barriers like food insecurity, transportation, inadequate housing and more.

This holistic approach acknowledges that basic human needs must be met before someone can focus on post-high school planning.

Support & Encouragement All Along the Way

We will expand support to navigate the process all along the way to post-high school education.

Mentors will help align student academic choices to their post-high school goals, including help with financial aid (like FAFSA or WASFA), writing essays, selecting courses and beyond.

Commitment to Inclusivity

We are committed to increasing the number of mentors representing marginalized communities so more students can see themselves represented in the mentors in their life.

All services offered through the CCMP will be tailored to the social, emotional, financial needs and cultural experiences of students and their families.

OUR PARTNERS

LaunchNW serves as the convener of these incredible organizations who will be providing mentors, career exploration, wraparound supports and other services directly to students and families.

Here is what our partners are saying.

We are excited to knit together resources for students, practitioners, and organizations. This investment in the region by WSAC showcases the power of collaboration to make lasting change.

Imagine being a child experiencing homelessness, sleeping in a car, or a shelter and moving from place to place. Now add going to school and the thought of graduating and going on to college or trade school. The difference between trying to survive today and focus on the future is dramatic. Having student mentoring combined with housing support will be a game changer. It will literally change the future for generations.
